Back to School, Back to Me: My Midlife Reset ✨
For years, September meant one thing: the ritual of buying my daughter’s school bits. New shoes, shiny stationery, colourful pencil cases, it was always exciting, and I’ll admit, I often sneaked a fresh notebook or planner in for myself too.
But now, life feels different. My daughter’s have both grown-up, and those school shopping trips are behind us. Yet, September still feels like a time of fresh starts, a moment to pause after the whirlwind of summer, breathe, and ask: ‘What do I need right now?”
My New September Reset 🍂
This year, instead of filling pencil cases, I’ve been filling my life with new habits and choices. I’ve lost just over two stone, and for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m in the driving seat of my health.
Post-menopause brought challenges I didn’t expect: fatigue, brain fog, the tug-of-war with HRT, and the nagging question — is this just how it’s going to be? We’ll come back to this in a later blog!
The answer, I realised, was no. I don’t want to become a tired-out version of myself, simply existing. I want to feel strong, alive, and resilient.
One of the books that really helped me make sense of this stage of life is Perimenopausal Power by Maisie Hill. She says, “When you understand your hormones, you can harness their power instead of being at their mercy.” That shift changed so much for me, I stopped seeing menopause as an ending and started embracing it as the beginning of a powerful new chapter.
And then I came across Reinventing Your Life by Jeffrey E. Young and Janet S. Klosko. They write, “Change is possible. No matter how deeply ingrained your life patterns are, you can break free and reclaim your life.” That line stopped me in my tracks — because it’s exactly what this new season feels like for me.
The Strong, Resilient Woman I’m Becoming
That’s why this September, my “back-to-school shop” looks very different. Instead of shoes and stationery, I’m investing in PT group training to build muscle, improve my bone density, and feel strong in my body. I want to stand tall in this next chapter of life, not shrink back.
Books have been a big part of this shift too. Harriet Braiker’s The Disease to Please really opened my eyes to the ways I’d been putting everyone else first for so long. She reminds us, “The need to be liked and to please others is the disease. The cure is to value yourself more.” That’s exactly what this season is about…… finally valuing me!
Asking Different Questions
Now my September reflections sound more like this:
What does this older, wiser version of me want to look and feel like?
How do I want to manage my HRT so I’m not defined by tiredness or fog?
How can I keep building a body that supports me when I travel the world?
Am I ready to open my heart to new love…. and what would that look like?
Reading Chatter by Ethan Kross helped me quiet the inner critic that used to hold me back, while The Source by Dr Tara Swart taught me how to align my brain, mindset, and energy to attract the life I want. Both books gave me practical tools for taking charge of my thoughts and believing in my future.
And the answer is… yes. I’m ready. I’m excited. I feel open.

Back to Me, Back to Life
September used to be about preparing my daughters for their new term. Now it’s about preparing me for my new season of life.
It’s not just about fitness or hormone balance, it’s about stepping fully into being a confident, resilient, midlife woman. A woman who knows what she wants, who invests in herself, and who is open to the possibilities of health, strength, love, and adventure.
✨ This September, I’m not just turning a page. I’m writing a whole new chapter.
